Mbarara City confirmed as hosts of UPSSA Ball Games

The confirmation came after a team of inspectors from UPSSA and the Ministry of Education and Sports led by assistant commissioner physical education and sports Sam Odong and association president Pauline Musigire, inspected the facilities in Mbarara City on Tuesday.

Mbarara City has been confirmed as the host of this year’s edition of the Uganda Primary School Sports Association (UPSSA) ball games that start August 26 to September 6.

The confirmation came after a team of inspectors from UPSSA and the Ministry of Education and Sports led by assistant commissioner physical education and sports Sam Odong and association president Pauline Musigire, inspected the facilities in Mbarara City on Tuesday.

And from their findings about the fields and accommodation areas in addition to the warm reception they received from the hosting schools at Uganda Martyrs, Mbarara Municipal, Mbarara Junior, and Mbarara City leadership led by Lord Mayor Robert Kakyebezi, the team was convinced enough to award Mbarara City the hosting rights.

“We are grateful that Mbarara City has passed without question, the tests to host these games of such a big magnitude. We are satisfied with the playing fields and the accommodation spaces at these three schools and even the assurance of better game hosting from the City leadership, so am happy to announce that Mbarara City will be the host of these games come next month,” Assistant Commissioner Sam Odong said.

On his part, Mayor Kakyebezi assured the team of all the support in terms of good hosting as they expect, and welcomed the entire community of UPSSA to Mbarara City.

“We are happy that our City has been allowed the hosting rights of these games of our young ones and as Mbarara City, we shall provide the necessary needed for good hosting. We shall only need to seat several planning meetings so that we come out with the best ways to have our young ones and the officials enjoy the games from the first to the last day,” Kakyebezi said.

The inspection team that included assistant commissioner Odong, president UPSSA Musigire, association Vice president technical Emmanuel Etieku, general secretary William Bwambale and his assistant Dinah Komugisha and Mbarara City senior sports Officer Chleopas Musinguzi, visited the fields at Kakyeka Stadium, Ntare School Kakyeka grounds, Mbarara High school, Mbarara Junior, Nyamityobora, Mbarara Modern and St Joseph’s and confirmed them good for the games.

“We are happy to have found all the playing grounds in almost one location meaning that our young athletes won’t find it a problem accessing them. We are now contented that we shall have good competitions come next month,” Musigire said.

The competition that will attract athletes from all the districts, Municipalities, and cities in the country, and will see completion in netball, handball, volleyball, and football for both girls and boys in the age categories of U16, U14, and U12.
