The Lumala family dominated the Ponsiano Lwakataka Fundraising Sprint at Victoria Raceway Park in Garuga on Sunday, September 20, with veteran rally driver Moses Lumala taking the top honours while his son, Musa Lumala, finished a closely contested second.
Moses Lumala, competing in a Ford Fiesta Proto, produced a composed and commanding performance over the 5.09-kilometre course to complete the event in 5 minutes and 26.040 seconds.
His victory marked his second consecutive triumph of the sprint season and further underlined his strong start to the current campaign.
His son, Musa Lumala, came remarkably close to matching his father's pace. Driving an FIA X Car, popularly known as a buggy, Musa stopped the clock at 5 minutes and 28.100 seconds, finishing just 2.060 seconds behind his father.

The result transformed the competition into a distinctly Lumala affair, with father and son occupying the top two positions on the podium in front of a large and enthusiastic crowd.
Allan Gayi, driving a Subaru Impreza N12B, completed the podium after registering a time of 5 minutes and 49.060 seconds. Haruna Kataza followed in fourth position with a time of 5 minutes and 50.130 seconds, while the remaining competitors completed the field in a highly competitive event that attracted 27 drivers.
Beyond the sporting competition, the sprint carried considerable significance for the Ugandan motorsport community. The event was organised to celebrate Ponsiano Lwakataka's 25 years of involvement in rallying, marking a significant milestone in the career of one of the country's veteran drivers.
Fans, fellow competitors and other members of the motorsport fraternity therefore gathered not only to witness the racing action but also to support one of their own.
The organisers further broadened the day's programme by incorporating motocross and mountain-bike competitions, giving spectators a full day of motorsport entertainment.

A total of 64 motocross riders took to the course in the morning, displaying speed, balance and technical skill before 18 mountain-bike cyclists took their turn and added another dimension to the day's spectacle.
For Moses Lumala, however, the significance of the weekend extended beyond winning a single event. His latest victory has strengthened his position at the top of the Federation of Motorsport Clubs of Uganda (FMU) sprint championship standings.
Lumala now leads the standings with 20 points after two rounds. He won the season-opening sprint before following it up with another victory at the Ponsiano Lwakataka Fundraising Sprint, establishing himself as the early pace-setter in the championship.
