Lugazi FC continues to make waves in their maiden Uganda Premier League campaign. On Thursday, they secured their sixth win of the season with a convincing 3-1 victory over Mbale Heroes at Mbale Municipal Stadium, climbing to ninth place in the standings.

Hussein Ssenoga, Sam Ssemugugu, and Sharif Saaka were on target for Lugazi, delivering a dominant performance against a side battling relegation. The win extends Lugazi’s cushion to 12 points above the drop zone, marking a remarkable turnaround under head coach Steven Bogere.

Bogere, who took charge last October, has been instrumental in reviving the team’s fortunes. When he arrived, Lugazi was languishing at the bottom of the table, having failed to win any of their first five top-flight matches under former coach Sadiq Sempigi, who had guided them to promotion.

Abdul Kalanzi, one of the club’s top scorers with 10 goals across all competitions, praised Bogere’s impact.

"I don’t have enough words to describe Coach Bogere; he’s more than a coach. He treats us like his own children and grandchildren. Yes, he’s demanding, but in a way that helps us grow. Our goal is to stay in the league next season," said Kalanzi.

With this victory, Lugazi has now amassed 26 points from 19 matches, recording six wins, eight draws, and six losses.

In other Thursday fixtures, Police FC boosted their survival hopes with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Express at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo. Brian Obedi and Steven Male scored for Police, while Conrad Ssenjogera netted a consolation goal for Express.

At Bombo Barracks, KCCA secured their second consecutive league victory for the first time since last October, defeating UPDF 2-1. Sadat Anaku and Arafat Usama were the goal scorers for KCCA.

The league action continues on Friday with five matches. Maroons will host Gaddafi at Luzira Prisons, while struggling sides Bright Stars and SC Villa clash at Kavumba Recreation Grounds. Kitara will face rivals Mbarara City at Royal Park in Butema.

Under the floodlights of St. Mary’s Stadium Kitende, league leaders Vipers will take on relegation-threatened Wakiso Giants in what promises to be an exciting encounter.
