Lugazi FC have officially parted ways with head coach Simon Peter Mugerwa and his assistant, Robert Ssekweyema, ending a six-month tenure at the Uganda Premier League club.

The club confirmed the departure by mutual consent in an official statement: "Lugazi Football Club has mutually parted company with Head Coach Simon Peter Mugerwa. Assistant Coach Robert Ssekweyema has also departed."

Mugerwa was appointed in December last year during a difficult period when the club faced relegation. He inherited a side battling for survival and, through tactical adjustments and improved squad morale, guided Lugazi to a 13th-place finish with 25 points, securing top-flight status.

Despite achieving survival, club management remained unconvinced about the team's long-term progress. Sources indicate concerns over the team's inability to consistently move above the relegation zone.

Lugazi have now completed two consecutive Uganda Premier League campaigns, both ending in relegation struggles that lasted until the final stages of the season. Club owners are eager to transform the team from a survival-focused side into one capable of competing comfortably for higher ambitions.

Attention now turns to the 2026/27 StarTimes Uganda Premier League season—Lugazi's third straight year in the top division. The club has begun searching for a new head coach, a role expected to attract significant interest from local and regional managers.
