After several second-place finishes in earlier events, there was no denying the handicap-3 player this time as she relegated fellow national team players Peace Kabasweka and Martha Babirye to joint second after both returned 250 gross each.
Gloria Mbaguta (264), Lillian Koowe (267), and Judith Komugisha (268) finished fourth, fifth, and sixth, respectively.
Florence Namara (239 nett) claimed the silver net category’s top prize ahead of Robinah Angom (240nett) and Shaminah Nerima (241nett).
Godfrey Kambale was the best men’s gross player with 224, finishing ten strokes ahead of Yassin Boyi and Elton Thembo, who tied with 234 each.
There were also podium finishes for senior golfers Grace Obua (86) and Jorem Adutu (76 nett), who finished top ahead of Esther Okullo (88nett) and Emmanuel Arima (82 nett). Jonathan Omach and Maureen Acen were the best juniors, while Damalie Balungi (68 nett) and Suzan Among (69 nett) walked away with the ladies’ subsidiary event prizes.
The fourth edition of the championship that attracted over 100 golfers was sponsored by Equity Bank and unfolded under the inspiring theme “Backing Every Bold Swing.”
What made this event stand out was not only the competitive spirit but also the celebration of women's growing presence in the game of golf, especially in Northern Uganda.
“As Equity Bank, we value both social and business aspects of the community, a key reason behind sponsoring the fourth edition of the Lira Ladies Open Golf Championship,” noted Kenneth Okello, manager of Equity Bank, Lira.
The championship served as a platform not just for competition, but also for networking, mentorship, and encouraging more women to take up the sport.
