The local community in Kumi district is thrilled with the selection of Bishop Maraka College and Wiggins SS as the co-hosts for the 2025 USSSA Teso Zone Ball Games II, set to take place this year from June 27-30.
This excitement follows the assurance provided by the USSSA Teso Zone executive team after conducting the final inspection of the facilities at the hosting schools.
“I’m so delighted that Kumi district has again been awarded the hosting rights for the zonal games, which will be held at Maraka College and Wiggins SS,” said Simon Ekabot, chairperson of the Kumi District Secondary Schools’ Sports Association.
Ekabot, who is also the headteacher at Dr Aporu Memorial SS, expressed strong support for hosting the event, promising a warm and welcoming atmosphere for all participants and visitors to the area.
According to Ekabot, Kumi district is fully prepared for the event, with ample security, accommodation, health services, playing grounds, and hotels available for visitors.
Francis Ebenu, the headteacher of Bishop Maraka College, praised the zonal team for accepting the school's bid to host this year’s Ball Games II, which marks the first time Kumi district will host the event.
“We are blessed as Kumi District and the entire Teso sub-region to have been chosen to host these games. Our visitors will feel at home as they stay at the selected schools,” Ebenu remarked.
A delegation led by John Robert Osuu, the zonal chairperson, was impressed by the clear and well-organised plans for the event.
“Bishop Maraka College and Wiggins SS have shown remarkable preparedness and capability to host the upcoming Ball Games II. Their facilities, organisational structure, and commitment to sports development make them ideal venues for this significant event,” Osuu said.
Bishop Maraka College boasts excellent sports facilities, including well-maintained fields crucial for the various sports to be featured in the Ball Games II.
According to Osuu, at least 70 schools are expected to participate in the 2025 Teso Zone Secondary Schools Sports Association Ball Games, with athletes competing in both boys’ and girls’ football.
Peter Okwii, the USSSA Teso zonal secretary, encouraged the school administrations to ensure all logistical aspects, from accommodation to facilities, meet the required standards to handle the large number of athletes expected to participate in the championship.
The Ball Games II will feature a range of sports, offering a platform for young athletes to showcase their talents. The championship will cover a variety of sports, including girls' football, basketball, rugby 15s, hockey, badminton, table tennis, and tennis.
USSSA Teso zone has approved Kaberamaido district as the 2025 Ball Games I host.
