FIBA Africa World Cup qualifiers
Today v Angola
Saturday v Mali
Sunday v Egypt
Uganda’s performance in the first round of FIBA World Cup qualifiers was so poor, it can only get better in the second round.
That is due this weekend, with Uganda taking on Angola, Mali and Egypt tomorrow, Saturday and Sunday in Belas, Angola. In the first round four months ago, Uganda lost to Angola by 22 points, to Mali by 11 and to Egypt by 39.
That record offers little hope for Mandy Juruni’s side, which is relatively young and in rebuilding mode.
But for Jonathan Komagum, Uganda’s qualification bid is not over.
“What I am looking forward to ahead of the qualifiers is making it through to the next round,” said Uganda centre Jonathan Komagum.
“We still believe in each other, we still believe in the team. Right now, we just have to follow what coach Mandy and the coaching staff want us to do. As long as we execute, I believe we will come out strong.
“Win at least two games and make it to the next round.”
