Koboko crowned U12 women’s football champions

Koboko District were crowned U12 women's football champions after edging Katakwi 5–4 on penalties in a thrilling final at Mubende Barracks.

The two teams entered the final determined to claim the title after last year's champions, Wakiso, failed to field a team for this year's National Primary Ball Games.

The closely contested encounter produced little between the sides, with neither team able to break the deadlock during the regulation 30 minutes. The goalless result forced the championship to be decided by a penalty shootout.

Koboko held their nerve from the spot, converting five penalties, while Katakwi managed four, handing Koboko the title.

The determination of both teams was evident throughout the final, with several players taking to the field barefoot. Despite lacking proper footwear, the young players displayed commitment and competed with confidence for the coveted trophy.

Koboko officials were delighted with the victory, saying the team deserved to leave Mubende as champions after their impressive performance throughout the competition.

"Our team was on form despite the game ending goalless. Our goalkeeper was also on form, and saving the penalties was expected," one of the Koboko officials said.

"We came as competitors and we are going back as champions."

The victory marks a memorable achievement for Koboko, who held their nerve when it mattered most to claim the U12 women's football crown.

The National Primary Ball Games are being held in Mubende District, with schools from across the country competing in various sporting disciplines.
