Uganda Premier League leaders Kitara FC have a massive opportunity to extend their leadership to four points clear of second-placed BUL on 39 points should they beat the visiting URA today at Masindi Stadium.

This match promises to be a mouthwatering encounter because of what is at stake for both sides and the quality within their respective squads.

Both sides are aiming to get back to winning ways after sharing spoils in their respective last games.

Kitara were held to a goalless draw by Maroons away in Luzira whereas URA at home in Lugazi settled for a 1-1 stalemate with BUL.

In the reverse fixture in Lugazi in November last year, Kitara salvaged a point thanks to Brian Aheebwa's 93rd-minute equaliser to finish 2-2.

Kabon Living and Najib Fesali scored the other goals each for their respective sides in this match.

Back to today's contest, Kitara will rely so much on their big home support which has made Masindi a difficult place for visiting sides to go and pick three points.

Only the Maroons have managed to beat Kitara on this ground, Villa fought hard to take a point in a 1-1 draw after scoring a late equaliser through Patrick Kakande.

The rest of the visitors have left empty-handed with humiliating defeats too such as Arua Hill, KCCA, Express, Wakiso Giants, Bright Stars, and others.

Kitara's top scorer Denis Omedi 10 goals to his name is in excellent form and enjoys scoring in Masindi.

Kabon, Aheebwa, Jude Ssemugabi, and Paul Mucureezi are the other players who usually show up whenever playing at home.

On URA's side, they have dropped so many points due to schoolboy mistakes, especially from the goalkeepers.

In almost every game URA has played since David Obua took charge, there has been a goalkeeper mistake that has resulted in a goal for the opposition.

Obua has tried to rotate the three goalkeepers in different games but everyone he brings on makes a costly mistake.

James Aritho cost them a place in the Stanbic Uganda Cup quarterfinals when he led to the goal by Mustafa Kizza that helped KCCA progress at their expense.

In the draw with BUL, it was Rogers Omedwa's mistake that gifted an opportunity to Jeremy Kirya to level scores.

Away from the goalkeeping madness, URA has quality in players such as Norman Namanya, Laban Tibita, Viane Ssekajjugo, James Begisa, and Joshua Lubwama among others.

What the coaches said

Kitara's assistant tactician David Bbaale said that they want to seize the opportunity of BUL dropping points, and therefore, he wants nothing but three points from today's match.

"We need today's three points because URA is one of the teams we are competing with for top positions. Also, one of our closest competitors for the top spot BUL dropped points, we therefore need to seize that opportunity," said Bbaale.

On Obua's side, he said that they are not intimidated by Kitara’s home crowd and form.

"We are here to compete,  we are not afraid of anything, I know they are a good team with passionate fans at home but we here for three points," Obua noted.

Away from Masindi,  Busoga United hosts Joseph Mutyaba's Bright Stars at the FUFA Technical Centre Njeru.

Yesterday Abubaker Mbowa's poor start to life in the Express dugout continued after losing 3-2 to Wakiso at Muteesa II Stadium Wankulukuku.

This was his second game in charge of the Red Eagles since replacing Alex Isabirye last week. His first loss was against SC Villa.

Mbarara City at Kakyeka condemned Gaddafi to a 5-0 humbling.

NEC FC also edged Maroons 2-1 to go third on the table three points behind leaders Kitara.
