Moses Kipsiro, who narrowly missed Olympic medals in both the 2008 Beijing Games and the 2009 World Athletics Championships in Berlin, understands the weight of missed opportunities, all too well.

Reflecting on his experiences, Kipsiro acknowledges that his failure to seize crucial moments cost him dearly, leaving him outside the medal bracket despite his undeniable talent.

Recalling his disappointment, Kipsiro emphasizes the importance of assertiveness and strategic decision-making on the track. He regrets hesitating when it mattered most, allowing others to dictate the pace and ultimately control the outcome of the race.

His advice to Joshua Cheptegei and Jacob Kiplimo ahead of the Olympic Games is clear: assert dominance, be proactive, and seize control of the race.

Drawing parallels to the 2021 Tokyo Olympic Games, where both Cheptegei and Kiplimo fell short of securing gold in 10,00m, Kipsiro suggests that their performances may have been impacted by similar lapses in decision-making. Cheptegei settled for silver, while Kiplimo clinched bronze, leaving many to ponder what could have been the challenge.

Recognising Kiplimo's potential, Kipsiro commends his ability to execute decisive sprints when necessary, reminiscent of the legendary Bekele's racing style.

He underscores the importance of maintaining momentum once a move is made, a trait that defines greatness in athletics.

Despite past setbacks, Kipsiro remains optimistic about Uganda's prospects at the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympic Games. With over 20 athletes already qualified, there is hope for a strong showing on the world stage.

Reflecting on Uganda's impressive medal haul at the 2021 Tokyo Games, including Cheptegei's gold and silver, Peruth Chemutai's gold, and Kiplimo's bronze, Kipsiro believes that with strategic decision-making and unwavering determination, even greater success awaits on the Olympic stage.
