Kibirige wins Tanna Memorial Golf Tournament in Tororo
The tournament was played in memory of business mogul Gokaldas Tanna, who lived in Tororo Municipality throughout his life.

Marvin Kibirige carded an overall 1-under 143 over 36 holes to win the Tanna Memorial Golf Professionals’ Tournament in Tororo.
The Marylouise Simkins Memorial Golf Club professional notched 13 birdies, seven of them in the opening round, in addition to 12 pars overall to beat Entebbe Club’s Herman Mutebi by a stroke and claim the biggest share of the sh10m prize money for professionals on July 24, 2026.
Uganda Golf Club’s Herman Mutaawe finished third, two strokes behind, while Lugazi’s Canary Kabise finished fourth, three strokes behind. Entebbe’s Vincent Byamukama completed the top five, six strokes off the lead.
In the elite amateurs’ competition, which concluded on Saturday, July 25, 2026, Lugazi Hills Golf and Country Club’s Juma Abiti prevailed with his first career win after posting 1-under 215 over 54 holes. He won the event by four strokes ahead of West Nile Golf Club’s Yasin Boyi, who carded 219.

The event, played under the theme: “Honour the past, play the present," saw Amon Bwambale and Lawrence Walakira tie for third place with 220 gross each, while Titus Okwong finished fifth with 225.

In the ladies’ event, Uganda’s top amateur Peace Kabasweka returned 237 in 54 holes to claim her second victory in a week, following her win at the Mbale Ladies Open on July 18, where she scored 226 in 54 holes.
Kabasweka finished four strokes ahead of Joyce Kisembo, who carded 241. Meron Kyomugisha (244) and Martha Babirye (246) completed the podium.
The hole-in-one prize of $3,000 (sh11m) went unclaimed as the event climaxed on Saturday.
Meanwhile, the precursor to the Uganda Open, the Uganda Golf Club (UGC) Ladies Open, starts on Monday at the Uganda Golf Club in Kampala.
The six-in-one tournament begins with a caddies’ tournament before a gross amateur 54-hole event from July 28-30 and a professionals’ sh20m, 72-hole competition from July 28-31. It will then continue with the gross amateur ladies’ contest from July 30 to August 1, a bronze ladies’ event over 36 holes from July 31 to August 1, and a one-round subsidiary event on Saturday, August 1.
