KhoKho Uganda has graduated 40 Level One referees from 15 districts to strengthen the technical officiating of the sport.
The arrangement is part of preparations for the resumption of the National KhoKho Super League, which is expected to kick off in December this year.
The training was held at Kyambogo College School in Kampala.
Speaking after the two-day course, KhoKho Uganda president Mustapha Nsubuga said the federation is now fully prepared to launch the country's first organized National KhoKho Super League.
"We already have at least 11 clubs that have confirmed their participation in the league. We announced the competition early enough to give clubs ample time to prepare, and we are encouraging more teams to register before the registration window closes," said Nsubuga.
He also urged clubs to begin seeking sponsorship to support their participation in the league.
Nsubuga explained that the federation's nationwide capacity-building program is being implemented in line with the new National Sports Act. The initiative began with coaching courses across the districts, with a target of training at least 500 coaches nationwide.
"Following our first national refereeing course, we are now moving into the competition phase of the sport," he said, while calling upon the newly certified referees to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, fairness, and integrity.
He encouraged the referees to prepare for Level Two and Level Three certification courses, which will be conducted either physically or virtually.
Nsubuga added that Uganda boasts some of the continent's finest KhoKho instructors and expressed confidence that the country will maintain its position as a leading force in the development of the sport in Africa.
Team Uganda finished third at the Commonwealth KhoKho Championship held in India in 2024.
