National Hockey League champions Kampala Hockey Club (KHC) Swans will battle for supremacy on Saturday as they face Weatherhead Gazelles in the National Hockey League.
With just five points separating the two sides, the game is set to be a big showdown as the Swans aim to stretch their point gap and secure the third spot on the table. HDF currently holds second place with 29 points, while Wananchi SC comfortably sits at the summit with 37 points.
Swans captain Winnie Alaro is confident that her side can get the win as they streamline their team for continental hockey competition.
“Each game we play now only gives us more preparation for our continental test in January. We can't afford to lose any game,” Alaro noted.
She made these comments on Thursday in an interview with Vision Sports after her team’s training session at Lugogo.
The Swans come into the game after successfully knocking out HDF in the second leg of the semi-finals of the Uganda Cup last weekend with a 2-0 victory.
“We have now worked on our team chemistry and aim to perfect our ball-passing skills in training. We hope to put all that to the test come game time,” Alaro added.
Both teams enter the game with impressive stats: the Gazelles have scored 67 goals and earned 10 penalty corners, while the Swans have scored 66 goals and earned 9 penalty corners.
Gazelles’ Hilda Balondemu leads her side as the top goal scorer with 18 goals, followed by Anita Atim with 12. For the Swans, Alaro tops the goals chart with 19 goals, and forward Sandra Namusoke comes in second with 10 goals.
