Inspiring the young generation to dedicate themselves to rugby remains the core agenda for the annual Legends Rugby Cup tournament.

Uganda Legends rugby team captain Alex Mubiru emphasised this after their return leg against their Kenyan counterparts, which ended 17-10 at Kampala Rugby Club (formerly Legends) in Naguru in favour of the visitors.

"I am happy that we are still stuck to the core reasons why we started this tournament. Regardless of the results, we remain committed to inspiring the young generation to commit their future to sports and especially rugby," Mubiru said after the game.

Uganda won the first leg in Mombasa 16-15, but fell 17-10 at home to Kenya, allowing the visitors to retain the trophy on 32-26 aggregate.

On losing the game at home, Mubiru reiterated that the tournament is not all about winning, noting that the 15-a-side series was started with the core mission of reuniting former rugby greats and allowing them to relive their glory days.

"It is not all about winning, but bringing ourselves together to have those great memories of those days and inspire our young ones to join the sport, and those already in it to stay, citing the brotherhood we exhibit," Mubiru added.

He appealed to corporate brands to support them so that they can execute their interests of promoting the sport countrywide.

The annual tournament officially started in 2023, and Kenya has dominated, lifting the trophy in all encounters so far.

Meanwhile, in the Busiro 7s Tournament in Entebbe, Uganda Academy beat Victoria University 12-0 in the final to win the inaugural edition.

En route to the final, Uganda 7s beat Walukuba A 27-0, while Victoria University eliminated Rams 19-0 in the semi-final.

In the women's category, Thunderbirds collected 22 points to emerge winners, followed by Avengers with 19 points in the round-robin tournament.
