The KCCA Panthers are flying after a four-game winning streak to end the first round of the 2026 National Basketball League (NBL) season that has catapulted Raymond Muhumuza’s men to a 7-4 record.

KCCA bagged victories against the UCU Canons, Kampala Rockets, Victoria Crocs and UMU Flames to move to third place in the standings, only behind the City Oilers and Namuwongo Blazers.

“I am happy with the first round,” Muhumuza told New Vision Sports. “We have had a good run, although it could have been better. There have been games where we could have done one or two things better.”

KCCA are reaping the fruits of a deep roster that has enabled them to cope with a congested schedule, a roster that features the young gem that is Waleed Omar.

“He is a special player,” admits long-term coach and mentor Muhumuza. “We have to be careful how we manage and support him. “Yes, he still has many things to learn, like when to pass the ball, but there is no doubt he is a special player.”

Omar has been one of KCCA’s most reliable players so far, and his form will be critical for the rest of the Panthers’ season.

“The goal this year is to win two games in the playoff semifinals,” says Muhumuza.
