KCCA FC secured a 2-0 victory over Kitara FC in a Uganda Premier League match on Friday at the Philip Omondi Stadium, Lugogo.
First-half goals from Saidi Mayanja and Derrick Nsibambi proved decisive in sealing the three points for the Kasasiro Boys.
Mayanja opened the scoring just 12 minutes into the game, courtesy of an assist from Shafik Kwikiriza.
After taking the lead, KCCA gained momentum and pressed for a second goal, but Kitara’s defensive duo, Ronald Otti and Arthur Kiggundu, stood firm to repel several attacks.
However, KCCA’s relentless pressure eventually paid off before halftime when Nsibambi capitalized on a mistake by Kitara goalkeeper Crispus Kusiima.
A miscommunication between Kiggundu and Kusiima allowed Nsibambi to intercept a back pass and slot the ball into an empty net, much to the delight of KCCA fans.
The large contingent of Kitara supporters who had traveled from Hoima City were left stunned as their star-studded team trailed 2-0 at the break.
In an attempt to turn the game around, Kitara coach Brian Ssenyondo made two substitutions at the start of the second half, bringing on Moses Sseruyidde and Umar Lutalo in place of Otti and Fred Amaku.
Despite these changes, Kitara struggled to make an impact as KCCA continued to dominate and comfortably saw out the match.
The win lifted KCCA to second place on the league table with seven points from three matches.
In contrast, Kitara suffered their second consecutive defeat, having lost 2-1 at home to NEC FC in their previous outing.
Prior to the match, tensions had risen following comments from KCCA coach Abdallah Mubiru, who referred to Kitara as a “small team” lacking the stature of his side.
At full-time, KCCA fans taunted their Kitara counterparts by echoing Mubiru’s remarks.
Kitara, despite their high-profile squad, now have just three points from three games, with one win and two straight losses.
Elsewhere, Wakiso Giants edged Mbale Heroes 1-0 at Kabaka Kyabaggu grounds on Friday, thanks to a goal from Herbert Asiimwe.
Action continues on Saturday, with URA facing Mbarara City at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo, and Express taking on winless Maroons.
