Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC moved to the top of the FUFA Women Super League table after a hard-fought 2-0 victory over She Corporate FC at the Valley Ground on Sunday.
Goals from Jovia Nakagolo and Kevin Nanyunja secured the crucial three points, lifting the hosts to the summit. The kick-off was delayed due to a heavy downpour that left the pitch unplayable and forced some fans to leave the highly anticipated clash.
Despite the disruption, She Corporate started brightly and nearly took an early lead, but Jesca Namaganda’s effort rattled the crossbar.
Kawempe Muslim made the breakthrough in the ninth minute. Nakagolo capitalised on a defensive mix-up between the She Corporate goalkeeper and a defender, calmly tapping into an empty net.
The visitors pushed for an equaliser before the break, with Sumaya Komuntale coming close, but her effort drifted wide.
After halftime, former Kawempe striker Rebecca Nakato nearly punished her old side, forcing a fine save from goalkeeper Saidat Namwanje. She Corporate’s hopes suffered a major blow in the 78th minute when goalkeeper Molly Naava was sent off for handling the ball outside her area.
With four minutes remaining, Nanyunja sealed the win with a composed finish, sparking celebrations among the home crowd.
“We knew this game was very important for us. I am happy to score and help the team win. Everyone worked hard and stayed focused despite the rain,” said Nakagolo, who was named player of the match.
She added: “This victory gives us confidence. We respect our opponents, but we want to keep winning and stay focused to finish the season strongly.”
The win propelled Kawempe Muslim to 36 points, moving them above She Corporate, who dropped to second on 35 points.
