A Mitsubishi XForce (Outlander Sport) will be the star attraction at this year’s I&M Bank Katogo Golf Series, set to tee off at Entebbe Club on March 15.
Valued at sh124 million, the vehicle will be awarded to any golfer who scores a hole-in-one during any of the four outings of this annual championship, which returns with exciting and challenging play formats.
During the launch of the sh650 million-sponsored event at I&M Bank’s headquarters in Kingdom Kampala, Victoria Motors Deputy General Manager Emmanuel Muyunga revealed that the Mitsubishi XForce, making its debut in Uganda, will be offered at a discounted rate. “We wanted to create excitement and a good challenge for the golfers,” Muyunga said.
I&M Bank Executive Officer Robin Bairstow emphasized the bank’s commitment to promoting sportsmanship, camaraderie, and fellowship through the event. He expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support received last year, which saw the event oversubscribed, and thanked partners including Johnnie Walker (official beverage partner), Lake Victoria Serena Golf Course, Victoria Motors, Fenon Events, GA Insurance, RwandAir, Goldmans, and Time Cop Security.
“This series is more than just golf; it’s about building lasting relationships, creating opportunities, and supporting communities,” Bairstow stated. “Last year, we donated sh20 million to caddies and children of maintenance staff, and we will do the same this year. We’ve also introduced new play formats to bring out the best in every player.”
Bairstow added that the bank plans to light up Entebbe Club’s 18 holes, allowing golfers to play even after sunset, offering a unique experience.
Katogo Captain Elly Mukasa praised the sponsors for their commitment to the event, which challenges golfers while raising awareness of community issues. “Expectations grow each year, and we are committed to adding value, meeting CSR pledges, and keeping the golfing community entertained,” Mukasa said. He also hinted at plans to expand the tournament to another East African country, following last year’s successful event in Kenya.
Entebbe Club Captain Serwano Walusimbi thanked the sponsors for their dedication to excellence and innovation. “We treasure these partnerships and appreciate everything the sponsors are doing,” Walusimbi noted.
The tournament, supported by a combined sh650 million from sponsors, will feature unique play formats: Rejected, For Better or Worse, Daytona, and In Regulation.
In the ‘Rejected’ format, both players tee off at every hole, and the opposing team selects the position for the second shot. Teams can reject the chosen position on six holes, where the worst nett score will count.
The second event will take place on May 31, followed by the third on August 9, and the final event on November 29.
