Kateete acquires new Subaru Impreza N12 as NRC ambitions grow

Uganda's promising young rally driver Ahmed Kateete has sent a bold warning to the established names in the country's motorsport fraternity after acquiring a more competitive and technologically advanced Subaru Impreza N12.

The 20-year-old driver's latest acquisition represents a major milestone in a career that has steadily progressed from the Autocross ranks to the Clubman Rally Championship (CRC), and now to the country's premier rallying category.

Kateete has spent the formative years of his career behind the wheel of a comparatively less powerful Subaru GC8, a machine that nevertheless provided him with invaluable experience and helped shape his driving skills, discipline, and perseverance.

His progression through the lower categories has now earned him an opportunity to compete against some of Uganda's most experienced and accomplished rally drivers.

The young driver secured his promotion to the NRC this year after completing the 2025 CRC season in an impressive second overall position. He finished behind category champion Walter Kibande, a result that underlined his growing competitiveness and consistency.

Driving alongside co-driver Morgan Serugga, Kateete has also demonstrated a level of determination that has defied the doubts surrounding his relatively young age. Despite entering a demanding sport where experience, machinery, and composure are often decisive factors, he has remained consistent and, importantly, completed every event on the motorsport calendar.

"Honestly, I had some fear of the competition in the sport, but that was then. With the experience I have gained, I fear no one, regardless of the type of expensive car they are driving. I am coming reloaded, and the senior drivers will know who Kateete is," he said.

The Subaru Impreza N12, previously owned by fellow Ugandan driver Joshua Muwanguzi, is expected to provide Kateete with a significant performance upgrade over the Subaru GC8 he has driven during his formative years.

For the youngster, however, the new car represents more than simply an improvement in machinery. It is a declaration of intent from a driver who believes he has earned his place among Uganda's NRC competitors and is now ready to test himself at the highest level of domestic rallying.

"Acquiring a better car than the ones I have previously driven is a significant milestone in my career. Above all, I entrust everything to the Almighty God," Kateete said.

The next NRC event, which is round five on the calendar, is set for September 4–5 in Kyenjojo and Kamwenge districts.
