Katakwi High School in Katakwi District emerged as the overall winner of the 2026 Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) Athletics Championship hosted in Kumi District.
The Katakwi District-based school claimed both the boys' and girls' titles, accumulating 273 points at the championship held on Thursday, June 15, 2026, at Bishop Maraka College School playground.
Soroti District secured second position with 246 points, while Bukedea District took third place with 177 points.

Other districts that participated in the championship included Kumi (133 points), Serere (115), Kaberamaido (97), Kapelebyong (87), Ngora (97), Amuria (32), and Kalaki (0 points).
Joseph Opule, the headteacher of Katakwi High School, could not hide his joy while speaking to Vision Sports.
"I am more than happy seeing my school lift the athletics overall trophy for the second time consecutively, and we shall be looking at winning more in the subsequent years," Opule said.
According to Opule, Katakwi is looking at creating a game-changing environment in the Teso region, starting with sports. His commitment to enhancing the school's sports programmes is clearly yielding significant results.
The school's head coach, Solomon Omodi, praised the students for their outstanding performance and for sending a strong message to other schools.
Deputy RDC of Kumi, Hudu Hussein Kyomya, while closing the meet, encouraged athletes to use the excellent opportunity to engage in healthy competition, build camaraderie, and strive for excellence in sports.
He praised Katakwi High for defending the honour of a district that is home to both the Vice President and the State Minister for Education and Sports in charge of Sports.
Richard Oyo, the Sports Director at Katakwi High School, attributed the school's success to relentless, hardworking, committed players who remain unshaken under pressure.
