Kampala University head coach Vincent Tumusiime, widely known in football circles as Titi Kamara, once again demonstrated his tactical intelligence as his side fought back to secure a crucial 2–1 victory over Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) in a Group A clash of the Pepsi University Football League (UFL).
The highly competitive encounter, played at MUST’s home ground, began at a fast pace. The hosts, buoyed by home support, struck first in the 18th minute through Richman Ainamani.
His well-taken strike gave MUST an early advantage and forced Kampala University into a difficult position. From the touchline, Kamara appeared visibly concerned, carefully studying the match as he searched for a way to break down the hosts' resolute defence.
Despite several attempts from Kampala University to restore parity before halftime, MUST remained disciplined, ensuring they carried a 1–0 lead into the break.

Second-half turnaround
The halftime interval proved to be the turning point. Kamara made a bold tactical decision by introducing Gilbert Wanume and Raymond Kimera in place of Kevin Azabo and Mubarak Muloki. The double substitution immediately injected fresh energy and urgency into his side's attack.
Just eight minutes into the second half, the visitors earned a corner kick. In a move reminiscent of the set-piece pressure tactics often employed by Arsenal, Kampala University crowded the penalty area. Gideon Nsubuga stepped up and delivered a beautifully curling effort that sailed directly into the net, catching the MUST goalkeeper off guard and bringing the match level at 1–1.
The equalizer shifted the psychological momentum. Sensing an opportunity, Kamara made another strategic substitution in the 50th minute, bringing on midfield sensation Joseph Kimera to replace Mark Ebong.
Kimera’s introduction proved to be a masterstroke. Displaying remarkable composure, he quickly assumed command of the game's tempo, enabling Kampala University to dominate possession and repeatedly threaten the MUST defence.
Late winner seals the points
As the match appeared destined to end in a draw, Kampala University continued to press. Their persistence was rewarded in the 88th minute when Wanume delivered a perfectly timed assist to Joseph Kimera, who calmly slotted the ball into the net to complete a dramatic comeback and secure all three points.
The victory was a testament not only to the players' resilience but also to Kamara’s tactical awareness. His timely substitutions and strategic adjustments played a decisive role in turning the match.
Group A standings
The win keeps Kampala University at the summit of Group A with 10 points from four matches. Uganda Martyrs University occupies second place with 8 points, followed by Kampala International University (KIU) with 7 points. MUST remains on 4 points, while Mountains of the Moon University has collected 2 points. University of Kisubi (UNIK) sits at the bottom with just 1 point.
With momentum on their side, Kampala University will look to maintain their impressive form as they continue their quest for qualification in this year's Pepsi University Football League.
