Luzira Secondary School claimed victory in the 8th edition of the Women's Day Woodball Championship at Kyambogo University, bringing an end to Mpoma School's six-year reign in youth woodball.
Luzira secured the title with 234 strokes, defeating defending champions Mpoma (252) by an 18-stroke margin in a tightly contested competition. St. Joseph Nagalama finished third with 296 strokes.
Woodball coach Eric Enabu expressed satisfaction with the level of competition displayed by the young players, noting that their performances present the federation with a challenge to develop structured talent nurturing mechanisms.
"The turn up was okay and the competition in the youth category was very impressive, which motivates the woodball federation to come up with more competitions to tap more talents," Enabu added.
Other schools that participated in the youth championship included Bombo Secondary School, Santa Maria, and Mengo Secondary School.
In the singles category, Denise Nanjeru of Kyambogo University delivered an impressive performance, scoring 98 strokes over 24 fairways to overcome stiff competition. Slyvia Najjinda of UNIK finished second with 104 strokes, while Bint Nakachwa of Ndejje University secured third place with 106 strokes.
In the doubles category, the pair of Florence Mukooya and Sandra Nabagala from Kampala University emerged victorious, playing 58 strokes across 24 fairways. They edged out Dora Nabale and Patricia Natukunda of Ndejje University, who managed 59 strokes, while Linda Acio and Janat Nabukera, also from Ndejje, completed the podium with 60 strokes.
