Shazhad Kamal rarely crosses the three-figure threshold despite his multiple batting resources.

On Sunday he did, smashing 102 off 126 runs as the Ceylon Lions defeated the Challengers by 26 runs to bounce back from their season-opening loss to defending champions Aziz Damani.

Kamal is not one for explosive innings, his batting gifts often employed to manage innings. On that basis, his ton will go down as a surprise. That it was scored on the famously stingy Entebbe wicket will only add to the wonder.

For the Lions, who had Ruwan Jayaratne score 40 runs, Robinson Obuya and Falak Sher add 11, the key is Kamal's performance ended in victory. Challengers Perry Wazombe did not have an equal reward for his blistering 56 off 32, and so Emmanuel Hashaya's 48.

At Kyambogo, the Wanderers made it two wins in two after sending Africa to second straight defeat, thanks to a six-wicket triumph. Timothy Erumuka and Brian Masaba combined for seven wickets as the Wanderers bowled out Africa for 133 in 40.2 overs.

Wanderers Abu Seguya led all scorers with an unbeaten 54.
