Kampala University (KU) Woodball Club shocked defending champions Prisons with a 2–1 victory in their opening fixtures of the Men's National Woodball Super League on Sunday.

Team captain David Kabugo led by example, winning all four of his games. Although teammate Robert Suuna dropped one game, his defeat was covered by the double pairing of Godfrey Kawoya and Brian Okidi, who also went unbeaten across all four games.

Team coach Lilian Zawedde was highly impressed by the performance, noting that dethroning the defending champions in the opener signalled their focus on the club's championship agenda.

"Actually, they survived a 3–0 sweep, and we are completely focused on the trophy this year," Zawedde said. "This is our second time participating in both the men's and women's leagues, and we are going for both titles."

In other fixtures at the Luzira Woodball Club course, newcomers Bank of Uganda upset former champions Ndejje University with a tight 2–1 win before edging UNIK 2–1. Led by captain Thomas Khedi, the Bank of Uganda squad relies heavily on the top-flight experience of Trevor Omina, Simon Otim and Ken Mutungisha.

Reflecting on the mixed opening weekend, Khedi promised a tactical adjustment.

"I am happy with our overall results despite losing against Kampala University and Ndejje," Khedi noted. "We are going back to the drawing board to map out a new strategy ahead of the next outing."

Elsewhere, the Ministry of Public Service (MoPS) beat Kyambogo University 3–0 and UCU 2–1, but later fell 2–1 to the University of Kisubi (UNIK). Kampala International University (KIU) endured a tough day in the field, losing 2–1 to MoPS, 3–0 to Prisons and 3–0 to Ndejje, though they managed to salvage a 2–1 consolation win against Uganda Christian University (UCU).
