Uganda’s top female amateur golfer, Peace Kabasweka, aims to build on her 7th-place finish at the Kenya Ladies Amateur Strokeplay Championship as she seeks to achieve even better performances beyond her home country.
Kabasweka returned 235 gross over 54 holes to finish seventh in the tough field that attracted 89 golfers, mostly from Kenya. The event won by Muthaiga Golf Club’s Kellie Gachaga (224 gross) also attracted golfers from Tanzania and Rwanda. Tanzania’s Hussein Madina (229) finished third overall.
Uganda Airlines-backed Kabasweka, currently ranked 224th in the world, also hopes to continue competing in more World Amateur Golf Ranking tournaments as she also improves on that front.
She has achieved significant success in women's golf, winning a ladies’ event in Tanzania and finishing second at the Zambia Ladies Open last year, on top of dominating the local scene. Although she has yet to secure a victory in Kenya, she has placed in the top ten twice, which gives her hope for future triumphs.
“I struggled to deal with the windy conditions and my approach shots, but I won the Day 3 best gross score prize,” Kabasweka noted.
“Otherwise, with all the ups and downs, I'm happy to register an improvement in my scores. With my new partnership with Uganda Airlines, I believe my game will improve in the international competitions. The more I travel, the better the experience and improvement in the game,” Kabasweka stated.
Locally, she was off winning both the Presidents Cup and the Pearl of Africa Golf Series before her exploits at Sigona Golf Club.
