Kabalega SS and St Kaggwa Bushenyi High School have been awarded the hosting rights for the 2027 Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) national boys' football and Ball Games I and Athletics.
Kaggwa school, located in the Western region, will host the national championship for the first time, having managed to beat Seroma Christian High School in the bidding process.
Seroma Christian High School will be on standby to host in case St Kaggwa fails to meet hosting requirements during the final inspection in January.
The announcement, made by USSSA President Justus Mugisha in Kampala on Thursday, October 29, 2026, confirms the hosting arrangements for the five major national competitions: National Ball Games I and Athletics, the National Football Boys Championship, Ball Games II, the Elite Games and the Swimming Championship.
Mugisha pronounced Nyakasura School as the main host of Ball Games II, working alongside Kyebambe as co-host. Janan Secondary School Bombo will co-host the Elite Games with Standard High School Zzana, Ndejje Campus. Seroma Christian High School will host the National Swimming Championship.
Jackson Katusiime, Headteacher of Kabalega SS, expressed his gratitude for the achievement, stating, "Our turn has now come! Thank you to old boys, stakeholders, and the school board for standing with us," he said.
According to Katusiime, Kabalega will host the national boys' football championship, marking its return as host after 12 years, while St Kagwa High School and Bweranyangi Girls Secondary School will jointly host National Ball Games I alongside Kyebambe.
"We have been given the mandate to host the boys' football for the year 2027. It's our mandate now to ensure that we organize the best tournament ever," adds Katusiime while speaking to Vision Sport.
Katusiime noted that it has been a long time since the Bunyoro-based school last hosted national games. The school hosted the national competitions, formerly known as Copa Coca-Cola, in 1999, 2006 and 2016, and the Airtel Rising Stars in 2019.
The Chairperson of the Board of Governors, Aloysius Mwesigwa Byaruhanga, who is also an old boy of the school, reacted with excitement and pride upon hearing the news.
"With what I have seen with my eyes, Kabalega SS is very ready to host the upcoming games. The school has all the requirements needed to have the games hosted," Byaruhanga said.
USSSA Chief Executive Officer Christopher Mugisha thanked various schools while encouraging them to finish up their preparations ahead of the next visitation.
