Super middleweight John Sserunjogi ‘JST’ is determined to join a league of a few Ugandans to clinch the Africa Boxing Union (ABU) titles.
Sserunjogi takes on Egyptian Ahmed Borishe for the ABU super middleweight title at the climax of the ABU Convention that starts August 18 to 23 in Kampala.
The hard puncher who in December 2023 also clinched the World Boxing Association (WBA) Africa super middleweight title has assured Ugandans of victory.
“I can’t wait to add this belt to my trophy cabinet. This Egyptian must leave a will to his family before jetting in here. He is coming to a death trap. He can’t survive me," vows Sserunjogi.
“This is a big moment in my boxing career. Fighting on such a big event means a lot to me. I’m ready to make my country proud."
The two will sweat for a marathon 12 rounds and victory in Sserunjogi’s favour will not only improve his ABU ranking but also encourage him to fight for other major titles.
Signed under Nara Pro Boxing, Sserunjogi who boasts of a 13-2-0 ring record aims to punch his way to greatness and join a league of a few Ugandan boxers having won ABU titles.
Notables faces on this list include Justin ‘The Destroyer’ Jjuuko, ‘Fabulous’ Joey Vegas Lubega, Badru ‘Mr Crush’ Lusambya, Abdul Tebazaalwa, Davis Lusimbo, Mike Kizza, Edward ‘Messiah’ Kakembo, Farouk ‘Malingumu’ Daku and recently Latibu ‘Dancing Master’ Muwonge and Catherine ‘The Silent Beast’ Nanziri.
According to Hussein Babu, the Nara Pro Boxing CEO, a total of seven bouts are lined up on the day.
“Our matchmaking has only seven bouts lined up on the day. But our assurance is that they are worthy of every penny of our esteemed fans”
The co-main fight will see Katwe Lipanda’s Kamada Ntege ‘Sure Fire’ defending his ABU East And Central Africa middleweight title against Tanzania’s David Mwita Mgaya.
Newly crowned national welterweight king, Joshua Nyanzi ‘Spider’ and Junjju Power have every chance to sort out their grudge in the ring as Cruiserweight Abdul Njego takes on Cameroon’s Merlin Tamba.
The same night will see Isaac Zebra Ssenyange Jr vying for the East and Central Africa Super welterweight title against Tanzania’s Johnson Kiwiya.
