JKL Lady Dolphins head coach Henry Malinga has emphasized that his team will not underestimate the JT Lady Jaguars ahead of their National Basketball League (NBL) Finals showdown, set to tip off on Friday, October 24 at Lugogo Indoor Arena.

“JT is new in the system, but they’ve shown consistent improvement,” Malinga said. “They have a solid roster of experienced players who’ve been to the finals and won championships. We’re not taking them lightly. Reaching the finals makes them worthy opponents, and I expect a tough, competitive series.”

The JT Lady Jaguars have made history this season by reaching their first-ever NBL Finals. Their journey has been dominant, sweeping both the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds, including a 3–0 victory over Magic Stormers.

In contrast, the JKL Lady Dolphins had to dig deep to secure their spot in the finals, edging out UCU Lady Canons 59–52 in a decisive Game 5 to clinch the series 3–2.

As four-time league champions, the Dolphins will lean on their experience and a formidable backcourt featuring Hope Akello, Angella Zainah Lokwameri, Shadia Nassanga, and Evelyne Nakiyingi. Their long-range shooting has been a major asset, with 25 three-pointers made in their last semifinal game. Akello, Ritah Imanishimwe, and Brenda Ekon were instrumental in that performance.

JKL’s aggressive defense and rebounding prowess have also played a crucial role, often disrupting opponents’ rhythm early in games.

For the Lady Jaguars, Brenda Kayaga and Rhoda Nagitta will be key contributors, having combined for 28 points in their last semifinal outing. Mercy Batamuliza remains a dominant force on the boards, anchoring the team’s inside presence.

Founded in 2021, JT Lady Jaguars have quickly emerged as one of Uganda’s top women’s basketball teams. Under the guidance of coach Sudi Ulanga, they’ve built a reputation for disciplined defense, high fitness levels, and cohesive teamwork.

During the regular season, the two teams split their meetings—JT Lady Jaguars won the opener, while JKL Lady Dolphins claimed victory in the second encounter. With both sides hungry for glory, fans can expect a thrilling finals series.
