Husina Kukundakwe qualifies for World Para Swimming Championships

Kukundakwe, who bagged a gold medal in the 50m freestyle youth with a time of 0:32.53, doubling as her personal best—also claimed silver in the 100m breaststroke

Husina Kukundakwe made history by qualifying for the World Para Swimming Championships later this year in Singapore after an impressive performance at the Indianapolis World Para Swimming Championships in the USA over the weekend.

Kukundakwe, who bagged a gold medal in the 50m freestyle youth with a time of 0:32.53, doubling as her personal best—also claimed silver in the 100m breaststroke with another personal best of 1:28.98. She wrapped up her outstanding performance with a bronze medal in the 100m freestyle, posting yet another personal best of 1:12.40, all in the S8 category.

Expressing her joy at the victory and her qualification for the World Championships, Kukundakwe said, "I am glad I performed well, kicked off with clinching a World Championships ticket on day one and making the finals. The medals depict hard work and resilience too, and I’ll keep pushing.”

This marks her return to international competition after the Paralympics, and the victory is a significant boost as she prepares for the World Para Swimming Championships in Singapore.

Under the guidance of her coach, Muzafaru Muwanguzi, who has helped instill a winning mentality in her since the Paralympics, Kukundakwe's success is a reflection of the commitment and focus she has brought to her training.

In the same category, Condoleeza Nakazibwe also made an impressive start to international para swimming, recording personal bests of 1:35.81 in the 100m butterfly, 0:34.72 in the 50m freestyle, and 1:20.85 in the 100m freestyle.

Enoch Sekitende, competing in the S9 category, also made his debut with notable improvements in his times and personal bests. He improved his 100m freestyle time from 1:32.51 to 1:29.41 (PB), his 100m breaststroke from 1:45.25 to 1:45.72, and his 50m freestyle from 0:38.30 to 0:36.89 (PB).
