Rising para swimmer Condoleezza Nakazibwe is optimistic as she prepares for her international debut at the Para Swimming World Series, set to take place from April 24–26 in Indianapolis, USA.

The promising S8 category athlete aims to post competitive times in her first appearance on the global stage, bringing her a step closer to qualifying for next year’s Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.

“I am going to work hard and see that I post good times while in Indianapolis to get points that will draw me closer to the Commonwealth Games qualification,” Nakazibwe said during the flag-off ceremony.

The ceremony took place on Thursday afternoon at the Uganda Paralympic Committee offices in Mulago, where president Bumaali Mpindi officially flagged off the athletes.

Nakazibwe will be joined by fellow S8 swimmer Husina Kukundakwe and Enock Ssekitende, who will compete in the SB8 category.

Kukundakwe, a standout from the Paris Paralympics, is expected to serve as a guiding force for Nakazibwe. Having supported Kukundakwe at the Paralympics, Nakazibwe now draws inspiration from her teammate’s wealth of international experience.

Meanwhile, Ssekitende expressed his resolve to make a strong impression on the international stage:

“I am going to show how determined I am off the blocks and be a living testimony to ability beyond disability,” he told Vision Sport.

The Ugandan delegation is led by team manager Irene Nabisenke and head coach Muzafaru Muwanguzi. The team hopes not only to deliver strong performances but also to make a powerful statement about Uganda’s growing presence in para-aquatics on the world stage.
