Hockey Africa Cup of Nations: Ghana 6 Uganda 1
Hockey Cranes head coach Francesco Richichi was left unhappy with his side’s tendency to concede goals but promised to improve on that.
“My team is conceding too many goals and this means we have to counter such a problem,'' noted Richichi.
He was speaking after Uganda lost 6-1 to Ghana in the 5th place playoff on Saturday at the Theodosia Okoh Hockey Stadium in Ghana’s capital Accra.
The Hockey Cranes dropped the defensive approach that secured them the first win of the tournament in favour of attack.
Uganda’s keeper Bosco Ochan who had a tough day at office conceded more than three goals in less than 20 minutes
The Ugandan defence manned by Brian Okodi was put to test by the Ghanaian strikers who constantly attacked and put the Ugandan defenders under immense pressure.
Skipper Emmanuel Baguma believes the team did its best but was simply overpowered by the resolute Ghana defence that barely gave Uganda a sniff.
“Ghana came into the game very physical and we were a bit soft which made them get an early lead. We didn't also put up a fight,'' said Baguma.
Uganda’s participation in this year’s tournament is not only a blessing for the players but also the administrators that got a chance to interact with their contemporaries on how to improve the game during the 23rd congress held on Saturday.
