Lira Golf Club’s senior golfer Grace Obua carded 45 Stableford points to clinch victory at the UGC Lady Captain’s Prize tournament held at Kitante on Saturday.

The 28-handicapper secured the day’s top prize—an air ticket to Dubai, courtesy of Fly Dubai—at the flagship season opener for the ladies, which also marked the conclusion of outgoing Lady Captain Wendy Angudeyo’s two-year tenure.

Obua edged out Olivia Nakuya and Ruth Akello by one and two points, respectively, to claim her third career air ticket. Her previous wins included trips to South Africa in the late 90s and a British Airways ticket to Dar es Salaam.

“I had a great game and thoroughly enjoyed myself. My last round in Kampala was about eight months ago. I arrived on Wednesday and also won the ladies’ night competition on Friday, so it’s been a fantastic week for me,” Obua shared.

Reflecting on her performance, she added, “I feel amazing and proud of myself. All glory to God. The greens were in good condition, though I three-putted on a few holes. Still, it was a solid round.” Obua started her game with a birdie and secured pars on holes 6, 11, and 18.

In the ladies’ Group A, Judith Komugisha, Berna Musanabera, and Harriet Kitaka emerged as the top performers. Meanwhile, Annette Kiconco (40 points), Connie Nshemereirwe, and Sarah Nduhukire (38 points each) led the way in Group B.

In the men’s subsidiary event, David Nambale triumphed with 42 points, followed by Daniel Kalimuzo (41 points) and Vivaan Menon (40 points).

The tournament also marked the transition of leadership within the ladies’ section. Gloria Mbaguta was announced as the new Lady Captain, supported by Sarah Nduhukire as Vice Lady Captain, Catherine Wabomba as Secretary, and Suzan Tashobya as Treasurer.
