Renowned kickboxer Moses Golola "Of Uganda" has rallied Ugandans to turn up in large numbers for the inaugural Tooke Run, scheduled for this Saturday, June 20, in Bushenyi District.
The run, which will be graced by President Museveni, precedes the World Olympic Day celebrations, commemorating the International Olympic Day and the modern Olympic Games that began in 1894.
Golola, who will lead the pre-race aerobics and workout sessions before joining his namesake, Uganda athletics legend and three-time Commonwealth Games gold medallist Moses Kipsiro in the 21km race, believes the event will have a lasting impact on Uganda's sporting community and public health awareness.
"Ladies and gentlemen, this is Moses Golola of Uganda. I want to assure all Ugandans that I will be part of the Tooke Run this Saturday. I am fully recharged with nutritious Tooke products, especially porridge. As you know, Golola and porridge are inseparable," he told Vision Sport during an aerobics session in Kawempe-Lugoba, attended by Tooke Presidential Ambassador Henry Mugisha.
For his part, Mugisha said all is set for one of the most remarkable sporting events the country has ever organised.
"The run is this Saturday. The stage is set, the routes are ready and the runners are prepared. His Excellency President Museveni will be the guest of honour and chief runner. This is more than just a run; it is a movement aimed at promoting nutrition, fitness and national development," Mugisha said.
Held under the theme "Move, Learn and Discover for Nutrition Care," the Tooke Run is organised by the Presidential Initiative for Banana Industrial Development (PIBID), with Rev. Prof. Florence Mulanga as the brain behind the Tooke products.
The run will feature races in the 5km, 10km and 21km categories, with a whopping shs 120 million staked in prize money. Kits are priced at shs 35,000.
