With Vipers having already sealed the Uganda Premier League title, following their 3-0 win over Express FC at St Mary's Stadium last week, attention now turns to the fight for the golden boot.

Vipers Caesar Manzoki currently leads the scorers' chart with 16 goals from 26 appearances and will be looking to add to his tally when his side visits Onduparaka on Tuesday.

The away fixture against the Arua outfit is one of four matches that Vipers are left with to complete the season.

After their visit to Onduparaka, they will next visit relegated threatened SC Villa on May 7 before another away fixture against Wakiso Giants on May 14; before they complete the season with a home fixture against Police at the St. Mary’s Stadium.

So, the four fixtures present Manzoki an opportunity to stretch his tally which is under threat from Onduparaka’s Shaban Mohamed who is on 15 goals.

After the ‘face-off’ between Shaban and Manzoki on Tuesday, the former who has since his return to Arua rejuvenated himself, has a local derby against Arua Hill on May 6, a home fixture against Soltilo Bright Stars on May 14 and an away fixture against UPDF in Bombo in which to score more goals.

Vipers Yunus Ssentamu who grabbed a double against Express last week as they sealed the league title is also still in the running and only 3 goals behind teammate Manzoki.

Ssentamu won last year’s golden boot after he netted 16 goals from 23 games, beating URA’S Steven Mukwala (14) and Express’ Eric Kambale (15).

Police’s Juma Balinya and Arua Hill’s Alfred Leku who are both on 11 goals a piece can also get closer or still overtake the leaders from the remaining three matches for their sides.

On top of leading the top scorers’ chart, Manzoki has also scooped a number of Pilsner Player of the Month Awards alongside his coach Robertinho Oliviera.

But since the 2016-17 season when KCCA FC’s Geoffrey Sserunkuma scored 20 goals no striker has managed to score more.

Vipers Dan Sserunkuma in the 2017-18 season, Juma Balinya (2018-19), Maroons’ Steven Mukwala (2019-20) scored only 17, 19, and 13 goals respectively.

SC Villa’s Andrew ‘Fimbo’ Mukasa with 45 from the 1999 season holds the record for the most number of goals scored in a single season.
