Long-serving Uganda Cranes left-back Godfrey Walusimbi has retired from football after a lengthy career.

Currently, the most capped Uganda Cranes player, Walusimbi on Wednesday penned a letter announcing his retirement.

In the letter addressed to the nation, he thanked his teammates, football authorities, fans, and his family.

“I have resolved to officially retire from professional football. I am extremely grateful for the experience, relationship, and exposure the game brought to me,” said Walusimbi.

Walusimbi further hinted that his next move will be into football management.

“I confidently confirm that now, I transit into football management and I am determined to approach it in the same way I did as a player,” he said

He crossed to Bunamwaya (now Vipers) from 2010 to 2013 before signing for Don Bosco in DR Congo.

He later played at Kenya’s Gor Mahia before being signed by South Africa’s Kaizer Chiefs.

Walusimbi made his debut for the Uganda Cranes against Angola in 2010 and played at two AFCON finals in 2017 and 2019.

He announced his retirement from international football in 2019.
