The Gazelles will be making their third appearance on the continent having made their debut in 1997 and the 2015 edition that was held in Cameroon.

FUBA summons 19 for FIBA Afrobasket finals

The Federation of Uganda Basketball Association (FUBA) has summoned a squad of 19 players that are set to commence preparations for the FIBA Afrobasketball finals 2023 which is scheduled to take place in Kigali Rwanda from July 28 to August 6.

The Gazelles will be making their third appearance on the continent having made their debut in 1997 and the 2015 edition that was held in Cameroon.

According to FUBA president Nasser Sserunjogi, the team will start training on Sunday, July 2 at Lugogo and Africa Bible University Lubowa and the final selected team will then head to Kigali for a residential camp which will commence on July 15.

“This will be a non-residential training camp and thereafter a residential one with the final selected team until the tournament period,”

“We are excited to be back on the big stage and this is a big deal for our basketball as a nation. We are very positive that the ladies will make the country proud come July 288 when the games tipoff,” noted Sserunjogi

 Out of the 19 that were summoned nine players are foreign based while 10 are local based.

Players summoned include Evelyn Nakiyingi(JKL), Flavia Oketcho(JKL), Shakira Nanvubya(UCU), Victoria Mukisa(Simpson College), Lydia Babirye(Victoria Christian High SCHOOL), Brenda Ekone(JKL), Sheila Lamunu(UCU), Rita Imanishimwe(JKL), Leticia Awor(JKL), Jamila Nansikombi(Troy University), Pricilla Abby(Grayson College), Janon Otto(Eastern M-AUS), Hope Akello(JKL), Jane Asinde(U-Tep), Mellisa Akullo(Vanguard university), Bridget Aber(UCU), Sarah Ageno(JT Lady Jaguars), Claire Lamunu and Maria Najjuma.
