The thrilling Round of 32 encounter at Swinga Stadium in Bidibidi Zone 2 ended in a 1-0 victory for the West Nile Regional League side.
The Red Eagles endured a gruelling 600-kilometre journey only to suffer a shock defeat at the hands of the spirited Bidibidi-based club.
Backed by a passionate home crowd, Total FC capitalised on a defensive lapse in the 10th minute, with forward Adnan Elias producing a clinical finish to put his side ahead.
Despite Express FC's relentless attempts to equalise before the break, the hosts’ resolute defence held firm.
The second half saw the Red Eagles intensify their efforts, but Total FC remained disciplined and denied them any clear-cut chances.
Express were without key players, including winger Richard Basangwa, captain Emmanuel Alex Wasswa, striker Sam Ssenyonjo, and defender Derrick Ngoobi, a factor that may have influenced their performance.
This victory marks a significant milestone for Total FC, a team that suffered a heavy defeat to URA in the 2021/2022 Uganda Cup round of 32 at Geya Primary School Playground in Yumbe district.
Total FC earned their spot in this year’s Round of 32 after an impressive run, eliminating Uganda Big League side Arua Hill FC at Swinga Stadium. Before that, they overcame Araka FC and Othman FC in the early rounds.
Juma Yusuf, the head coach of Total FC, credited the win to teamwork and determination.
Club CEO Patrick Leku, also known as Pato, praised the players for their remarkable achievement.
Efforts to get a response from Express FC proved unsuccessful, as both the head coach and team captains declined interviews.
