Track and field athletes can look forward to a thrilling weekend as the Third National Trials kick off this Saturday at Namboole Stadium.
Adding to the excitement, a strong Kenyan contingent—led by Africa’s fastest man, Ferdinand Omanyala—will compete at the event.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for our federation. Having global stars like Omanyala elevates the competition and inspires our athletes. He’s no stranger to Namboole, and we hope his presence draws even more local talent and fans,” said Namayo Mawerere, Assistant General Secretary of the Uganda Athletics Federation (UAF).
Omanyala is set to compete in the 100m and 4×100m relay, alongside Kenyan teammates including Isaac Omurwa, Justine Isaboke, Babu Meshack, Kevin Kipkorir, Calistus Juma, Tyson Juma, Samwel Chege, and Elkana Kiprotich.
All eyes will be on rising star Tyson Juma, who, like Omanyala, could push the competition to new heights. With such elite talent on the track, Namboole may even witness a new stadium record—potentially breaking the 10-second barrier in the 100m.
The high-level competition from Kenya presents a golden opportunity for Uganda’s athletes to test themselves against the best, raising the standard of local track and field. Fans and competitors alike should embrace this chance to witness—and be part of—an electrifying display of speed and skill.
