Entebbe’s Apell strengthens Monthly Tees grip as Plenderleith surges

Entebbe Club’s Peter Apell strengthened his position in the MTN Monthly Tees Order of Merit after he topped the November mug competition at Entebbe Club on Saturday.

Apell, who before the Saturday tournament was leading on 575 nett, returned 70nett to top the men’s Group A ahead of Andrew Baguma who carded 71nett. He consequently remained top, with a total net score of 574 from his best eight rounds thus far, with the Grand Mug of Mugs next month the only competition remaining.

But it was lady golfer Maxi Byenkya who scooped the overall gong after she returned 65nett on Saturday, she made great strides after the day’s score moved her from fifth to now second on 580nett, behind leader Bridget Basiima who has 577nett from her best eight rounds.

At the Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort and Spa, it is David Plenderleith who topped the men’s group A on Saturday and also leads the monthly competitions at the picturesque Kigo course with 182 points.

He is followed by Jadu Patel who is on 166 points with Kato Ssebale, Ducan Kaggwa and Kartick Halai completing the top five on 154, 152 and 106 points respectively.

But the Saturday action was won by Karim Somani who returned 41 points ahead of Plenderleith and Moses Matsiko who managed 38 points apiece.

Suresh Patel (38pts) and Joel Kakira (35pts) were the best in group B while Katy Kabenge was the best lady with 23 points. Brian Rwabogo was the best guest player on the day on top of taking the nearest to the pin prize. Samuel Sejjaka walked away with the longest drive prize.

In Kampala at the Uganda Golf Club on the same day, it was in form Venny Birusha who took the day having returned 70nett, ahead of Titus Okwong and Devshi Senghani who carded 72nett each.

Ashish Arora (73) and Peter Ndaula (74) as well as Perez Muhwezi (73c/b) and John Nasasira (73) were the top players in the men’s groups A and B respectively.

Gloria Mbaguta (73), Jenina Nasimolo (76) as well as Hasifah Karungi (74) and Connie Mukuru (85) were the best ladies who made the podium in the ladies’ groups A and B.
