South African football giants Mamelodi Sundowns kicked off their African tour in Uganda, the home country of legendary goalkeeper Denis Onyango with a tour of Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo on Friday, March 21, 2025.

The South African club toured the newly refurbished facility ahead of their football clinic at the stadium on Saturday.

“Through friendship and football clinics, the goal is to give back to football-loving countries across the continent,” the club pointed out in their official statement

Onyango, who has been a cornerstone of Mamelodi Sundowns since 2011, expressed his excitement about the visit.

On Thursday, March 20, the tour included a visit to Ntanda College in Butambala, followed by stops at the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) and SC Villa on Friday, Onyango’s former club.

The final day of the visit, Saturday, March 22, will see the team host football clinics at Hamz Stadium in Nakivubo from 9 am to 1 pm.

The Mamelodi Sundowns team was led by Academy Coaches, Club Chairman Tlhopie Motsepe, the Marketing team, and goalkeeper trainer Kennedy Mweene.

With the guidance of the Chairman of Hamz Stadium Organizing Committe Rogers Mulindwa, Onyango and the Sundowns delegation visited various areas of the stadium and engaged in a variety of indoor games inside the stadium.
