Determined to restore her past glory, former National Open Champion Harriet Akot is readying herself for the association's premier event in August and September.

Harriet who is expecting a baby was part of the UPDF team on Saturday and Sunday in the National League at Mamerito Hotel in Bweyogerere, Kampala.

“It is good practice for her so that by the time of the National Open, she is good to go,” senior darter Dinah Amoding said.

Meanwhile, Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) started the National Darts League title quest with an unbeaten run

The Kamwokya based side defeated defending champions Prisons 7-5 before smashing Pearls 10-2, KBN 12-0, and Silver Springs 11-1.

“Prisons has been beating us because we were not raising our full team due to deployments at work, but now we have managed to raise our top players and we are targeting the title,” coach-player Augustus Ndigendawa said after the games.

Ndigendawa also attributed that long spell of games to the coronavirus pandemic that kept players home without practicing.

“People have not been practicing and they are now slow, but when they play regularly they will improve on their speed,” Ndigendawa added.

In the men’s singles category, UWA top marksman Ben Musisi beat Ronald Kalete 2-0 and Isaac Pasi saw off Andrew Emomeri 2-0.

However, in the doubles Prisons’ Emomeri and Kalete put up a fight and revenged with 2-0 over  Isaac Pasi and Ben Musisi 2-0.

Kalete after the games said,” I lost to Musisi, but I’m going to get my board at home so that next time victory is ours.”

In Busega, Leisure Tec beat UCI 8-4 but lost to Police and Marafik 10-2 and 7-5 respectively.

The 10-team Darts league continues next weekend in Busega and Bweyogerere respectively.
