EAC Games: Uganda beat Kenya in basketball as Kenyans lead in golf

Ugandan legislators continued their perfect run in the East African Community (EAC) Inter-Parliamentary Games on Tuesday night when they defeated their Kenya National Assembly in the men’s basketball at Lugogo.
Emmanuel Okabe led the Ugandans with 11 points, while team captain Mwine Mpaka Bosco Okiror chipped in with 10 points, and Julius Tusiime added 8 points apiece to ensure a 48-34 victory.
In the men’s action in volleyball, the Parliament of Rwanda members defeated the East Africa Legislative Assembly (EALA) 3-0 while in the women’s volleyball action, Kenya beat Rwanda 2-1.
In golf, the 36-hole golf action started on Tuesday at the Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort and Spa course, with the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Thomas Tayebwa, among the players. After his round in the scorching sun, Tayebwa said he had had a reasonably good round in which he was targeting to score at least 36 points.
Although he came short by one point, he can make amends in the final round, which will be played at the same venue today.
“I started pretty well, but things were tough on the back nine. I was putting well, but I didn’t hit my irons well. But it was also windy, and yet I tried to be aggressive, which didn’t help matters. But whatever I lost in the game, I gained in the number of calories I burnt, but I need to work more on my personal fitness,” he noted.
After the opening round, Kenyan legislator Edward Muriu was on top of the leaderboard with 40 points, followed by compatriots John Methu, Murwithania Mugambi, J.K. Chege, and Kiunjuri Mwangi, who all returned 38 points apiece. Uganda’s best scorer in the round was Sylivia Nayebare, who returned 37 points.
Tayebwa finished 9th with 35 points in the event, which attracted 33 participants from Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, and South Sudan. Beyond football, MPs from Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi, and South Sudan are also taking part in spirited matches of volleyball, basketball, tug-of-war, netball, athletics, darts, and golf.
The games kicked off in grand style on December 6, 2025, at the historic Kololo Ceremonial Independence Grounds.
