National team captain Joseph Cwinyaai shot a second round 2-under 69 to take a one stroke lead in the penultimate round of the Stanbic Entebbe Golf Championship at Entebbe Club on Tuesday.

Cwinyaai notched six birdies, nine pars, two bogeys and one double bogey to finish with the best-of the-round 69 to overtake overnight leader John Musiimenta by a stroke going into the last round of the sh15m amateur event.

Musiimenta could not replicate his first-round heroics that saw him hit five birdies and only managed three and nine pars in the second to surrender his overnight three-stroke advantage to Cwinyaai who opened with 1-over 72.

Joseph Kasozi is third, three strokes after rounds of 74 and 70 while Charles Mulyanga is fourth. Michael Tumusiime, Joseph Akena, and Lawrence Walakira all who have won events in Entebbe before are tied in fifth with 6-over 148 each, in the World Amateur Ranking event.

It can only take a miracle for defending champion Titus Okwong to win this again as he is 12 strokes off the leader.

David Kamulindwa's massive nine-shot lead from the night before got whittled down to just three strokes in the professionals' division after he had a tough day on the course and couldn't match the brilliant form that had put him well ahead of the pack, wrapping up round three with a disappointing 77 that was six over par.

Kamulindwa birdied six and seven holes in the opening two rounds respectively but could only manage two in the third and must now re-focus in order to stand a chance of winning his first Entebbe Open title.

Grace Kasango who has been the most consistent in this championship remains second, now three strokes away after rounds of 70, 70 and 71.

Defending and two-time champion Rodell Gaita is tied in third with Canary Kabise all having shot 214 over the three rounds, six strokes away from the leader.
