Uganda won by 106 runs

The Cricket Cranes won a bronze medal for Uganda at the African Games that climaxed on Saturday.

They beat the Kenyan by 105 runs in the third-place playoff at Achimota Cricket Oval.

Simon Ssesazi made 66 runs off 44 balls followed by Dinesh Nakrani who made 55 runs off 21 balls and their exceptional performance enabled the side to finish third overall.

Cricket Cranes interim coach Jackson Ogwang was happy with the display and urged the boys to pick up some vital lessons from the five games played.

“I am happy with the way the boys have played, the reality check we got was a dear one since it came at a crucial stage of the tournament but it was a test worth taking on,” Ogwang noted.

Cricket Cranes beat Kenya Ghana and South Africa in the group stages, lost to Namibia in the semifinals, and came back strong in the third-place playoff game.

Ogwang also stressed that the tournament was great for his side that is preparing to make its debut at the ICC men’s T20 World Cup from June 1 to 29 in the West Indies and USA.

“The team is using each opportunity at its disposal to prepare for the World Cup, and they played out their hearts and have lessons learned and homework to do before June,” he said.

Player of the game Cosmas Kyewuta was happy to have returned to the side.

“I was sidelined from the team due to injuries but came back strong and pounced hard on the Kenyans,” Kyewuta said.

He said this after receiving his accolade as player of the game.
