Uganda darters have paraded the trophies they won at the first African Darts Championships in Egypt, where Sarah Makanga and Henry Job Odoi emerged as the continental champions in the men and women categories respectively.

The championship was the inaugural event on the continent that attracted several countries, especially from the north and west African countries such as Nigeria, Senegal, Cameroon, and Comoros.

It ran from March 17 to 21 with Uganda being represented by five athletes.

Makanga, a player from the Bank of Uganda team where she works as an administrator, was one of the three ladies on the team including Gloria Omwonya and Lilian Ama, who were ejected early from the tournament.

The president of Uganda Darts Association (UDA), Eng. Bosco Lepi finished second in the men's category at the continent.

At a press briefing at Lugogo, NCS Chimney Restaurant, UDA president Lepi also introduced the national team that won the East African Darts Championships in December last year in Tanzania, Dar es Salam.

Lepi urged the players to keep training and focused to retain the East African accolade that has been consistently won by Kenya for the last 17 years.

“Let’s make sure we retain this trophy for two more years,” Lepi urged the athletes,

The competition in Cairo with four events in one also had the first Arab Championships and the first.
