City Oilers, the reigning champions of the National Basketball League (NBL), announced on Tuesday, March 18, the signing of small forwards Joseph Chuma and Emmanuel Okumu ahead of the 2025 season.

“Once an OILER, always an OILER. Welcome back home, Chuma Joseph and Okumu Emma,” the Oilers announced in a statement.

The return of Chuma and Okumu strengthens the Oilers’ roster as they aim to extend their dominance and secure an unprecedented 11th league title. The team is also expected to announce additional signings, including Bolton Rujjumba, Edgar Munaaba, and Germaine Roebuck, as they finalize their squad for the upcoming season.

However, the Oilers face some challenges heading into the new campaign. Star player Edrine Walujo remains suspended following match-fixing allegations and will not be part of the roster. Additionally, centre Moses Maker has parted ways with the team after deciding not to renew his contract.

City Oilers will tip off their 2025 NBL season on Friday, March 21, against Namuwongo Blazers in a highly anticipated clash at the Lugogo Indoor Arena.

Meanwhile, other NBL teams have been actively strengthening their squads for the new season. Newly promoted Victoria University Crocs have signed point guards Beinfait Lola and Gaaki Daniel, along with center Deng Nyuot, all from Nam Blazers.

The Rezlife Saints have added point guard Elvis Ssentongo and power forward Kasinde ‘Odom’ Francis to their lineup. Kampala Rockets have made several signings, including point guards Joseph Wacha and Roxine Ahumuza, shooting guard Brian Opio, and power forward Jef Mpiya.

JKL Dolphins have also bolstered their roster with key additions, including guard Dennis Omara and forwards Kenneth Mesho and Otweyo Wilson. UCU Canons have signed guards Ariho Amara and Muganzi Daniel, while KCCA Panthers have strengthened their squad with guard Kimambo Livingstone and power forward Stanley Mugwerwa.

Nam Blazers have recruited several new players, including veteran guards Jimmy Enabu and Tonny Drileba. KIU Titans have also made multiple signings, adding guards Namugowa Arthur and Olumu Ambrose, among others, to their roster.

As the 2025 NBL season approaches, the competition promises to be fiercer than ever, with teams across the league making strategic moves to challenge City Oilers’ dominance. Fans can look forward to an exciting season of basketball action.
