Crispus Asiki’s early strike in the fifth minute earned Kitara FC all three points at the expense of bottom-placed Calvary FC, who remain winless in the Uganda Premier League after 15 matches.

Asiki finished clinically from a well-timed pass by the experienced Patrick Kaddu, sealing a 1-0 victory for the visitors at Midigo Primary School playgrounds on Saturday.

Following the goal, the hosts attempted to mount a response before the break, pushing forward in search of an equaliser. However, Waswa Bbosa’s side remained composed, dropping deep to protect their lead as the first half came to a close.

Kitara continued to show defensive discipline in the second half, frustrating the home side and limiting clear-cut chances as the Royals held firm to secure maximum points.

The win lifted Kitara to fifth place on 29 points, just one point behind SC Villa, Entebbe UPPC FC and KCCA FC.

Calvary FC, meanwhile, remain rooted to the bottom of the table with only four points, now more than 10 points adrift of the relegation survival fight after 15 games.

Kitara head coach Waswa Bbosa attributed the victory to teamwork and determination, noting the difficulty of facing teams struggling at the bottom of the standings.

He said the team travelled early to Yumbe district to familiarise themselves with the environment and train on the pitch ahead of the match.

"Calvary has the youngest squad in the league, according to me, and the boys are learning a lot and getting experience. They played well, but the luck was ours to get the points," said Bbosa.

Calvary FC coach Simon Otim said fortune was not on his side, adding that the first round of the season had offered valuable lessons.

He said the team would reorganise and prepare for a renewed challenge in the second round.

"We have identified gaps in the squad, and I am happy that the management is ready to cooperate with us to make a few changes in the team, especially in the coming transfer window," said Otim.

Calvary FC were promoted to the Uganda Premier League in the 2024–2025 season after finishing top of the Big League table.
