KCCA head coach Morley Byekwaso has called for consistency from his players following a convincing 1-0 over rivals Vipers on Saturday at the MTN Omondi Stadium Lugogo.

The win lifted a massive amount of pressure off Byekwaso’s shoulders.

“It was a good performance, the kind of response everyone expected us to produce after a difficult week since losing to Arua Hill,” stated Byekwaso.

“But we need to be very consistent with similar displays even in our upcoming games so as to regain our confidence and continue to improve,” he added.

Byekwaso's side went into Saturday's game as underdogs due to their poor start to the season, and facing a side like Vipers that had just qualified for group stages of the CAF Champions League was seen as a tough assignment for them.

However, the Lugogo side shocked many by putting up a stunning performance from start to finish, giving the visitors little to no chance to strike back.

Rogers Mato scored the only goal of the game assisted by Moses Waisswa inside six minutes and from there on, they bossed proceedings.

A midfield partnership of Ashraf Magume and Moses Waisswa cut off supply to Vipers' forwards Yunus Sentamu and Milton Karisa, leaving the KCCA goalkeeper Benjamin Ochan with no work to do in the goalposts.

Allan Okello and Congolese forward Simon Kankonde put the Vipers' central defensive partnership of Murushid Juuko together with Hilary Mukundane under immense pressure in search of KCCA's second goal.

But the two stood their ground and kept the KCCA attackers at bay.

Vipers improved at the start of the second half with their latest signing Darcy Mbaka and Karisa leading their search for a comeback but KCCA quickly wrestled back control.

This was KCCA's third game of the season after the 3-2 win over Wakiso Giants and the 3-1 loss on the road to Arua Hill.

For Vipers, it was a second league game having played Soltilo Bright Stars and drawn 0-0 and had to miss other games because of CAF Champions League qualifiers.

Vipers head coach Roberto Oliveira admitted that his side didn't do enough to trouble KCCA but promised to work on all the mistakes before their next game.

“I always want my team to play well but today, they didn't do it and I am not happy. I have identified where it all went wrong and I am keen on correcting those mistakes before our next game,” Oliveira remarked.
