Coach Morley Byekwaso has cautioned his players not to be carried away by the group stage performance.

Byekwaso emphasized this after Uganda defeated South Sudan 1-0 to maintain their winning run in the African Games. They managed to top Group B with nine points after beating Senegal (1-0) and Nigeria (2-1) in other games.

Uganda will now play Congo in the semifinals on Tuesday in a match Byekwaso feels they need to double their effort.

"We have the potential to compete better than we did in the group stages so long as we remain focused and determined. The victories we picked in the group stages should make us feel we are already there, they still have a lot to offer," stated Byekwaso.

Congo finished second in Group A with five points, two below-table leaders Ghana. Ghana will meet Senegal in another semifinal. Byekwaso has also cautioned his players not to be taken away by the group stage performance.

The Hippos, who beat top African sides in Nigeria and Senegal 2-1 and 1-0 respectively, qualified for the semifinals in the African Games for the second time.

In the 2009 games in Johannesburg, South Africa, Uganda were eliminated by eventual winners Cameroon in the semifinals. However, in the 1965, 1991, and 2011 editions, Uganda didn’t go past the group stages.
