Bugweri 1-2 Butembe

After a one-month break, the MTN Busoga Masaza Cup tournament took centre stage with yet another exciting day that drew hundreds of fans at Bugembe Stadium.

Against humid conditions, it was the 2017 champions Butembe that drew first blood with a 2-1 victory over tournament crowd pullers Bugweri in the first quarterfinals.

Butembe's forward Tonny Tilituuka took advantage of the sloppy defending by Bugweri's defence when he looped past helpless Bugweri keeper Ibrahim Wakasha after 15 minutes to hand Butembe a 1-0 lead.

Bugweri was only restricted to two chances in the first half through Ukasha Mulondo and Innocent Musuk.

Credit though goes to Butembe's resolute defending by Mikel Abasa, Maurice Isabirye, Isa Balaba, and Davis Asante.

Then came the 75th minute when second-half substitute Kenneth Oboya pulled in the second goal for Butembe.

William Okello pulled one for Bugweri deep in the added third minute of injury time but it was too late for Bugweri to make a comeback, loosing 2-1 to Butembe after the final score.

After the match, Bugweri head coach Kenneth Kaluuba conceded defeat.

"It was a bad day in the office today due to bad luck but we shall come back stronger next year," said Bugweri's head coach Kaluuba.

His opposite number Afan Ikoba was delighted to see his side play to his instructions.
